Christmas in most of Nigeria is that one festive season that every child looks forward to. Unfortunately, too many families are unable to give the experience their little ones crave, and as Nigeria’s economy has struggled in recent years, it becomes even harder. But, Pst. (Mrs.) Florence Umana and our foundation were excited to make the 2024 Christmas season an unforgettable one for over 500 kids in Akwa Ibom State.
The annual Children’s Christmas Party, organized by the foundation and led by founder, Pastor (Mrs.) Florence Umana, typically brings together children from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds, including those from orphanages across the three Senatorial Districts of Akwa Ibom State. It is usually organized to bring joy and happiness to orphans, and other kids, and their families; and also to encourage unity amongst children, in the spirit of the season. This time was no different, notwithstanding current economic hardships.
Excited Caregivers
Parents and caregivers from participating orphanages expressed their joy and gratitude for the event.
Rev. Sister Prudentsia Ahanonu of Holy Family Sisters of the Needy, Ikpe Ikot Nkon, shared her excitement as follows:
“This event is significant as it brings together children from diverse backgrounds to celebrate love and unity. Coming from a place like Ikpe Ikot Nkon, where such events rarely happen, my kids are overjoyed and grateful to celebrate alongside their peers from different parts of Akwa Ibom State. We thank Mrs. Florence Umana for her selfless love and pray for the continuous growth of the foundation.”
Over 500 Children United is Remarkable
Mrs. Arit Inyang, a mother who attended the party with her children, praised the emphasis on unity, inclusivity, and joy amongst the children;
“What stood out for me today was the inclusivity. Children from three orphanages were treated equally alongside other children. Everyone received T-shirts, gifts, and the same level of care. Seeing over 500 children united in joy and excitement is truly remarkable,” she said.
The back to school programme of the foundation, for December 2024, also held within the Christmas celebrations, at the residential home of Pst. (Mrs.) Florence Umana.
